COURSES - INDIAN CAs

PASS has designed a program specifically tailored to the needs of CAs from India. This program includes both technical sessions as well as case writing, both of which are essential for success.

As noted by one of our Indian students this past year: "I am an Indian CA and took the PASS case writing course in July 2011. The course gave me valuable insights in debriefing past UFE cases and marking of sample cases by past UFE markers helped me address depth and breadth requirements. Time management - a key element in the UFE along with technical skills was imparted along the way. I will gladly recommend the UFE PASS case writing course to any Indian CA wishing to appear for the UFE as I believe it greatly complements our technical skills and experience."

The program includes the following components:

Introductory /Study Plan Session

The UFE is a very comprehensive exam which draws on many topics and skills. Students therefore often do not know where to start, particularly students who did not complete their studies in Canada . In order to address this, PASS has designed an Introduction/Study Plan session especially for CAs from India. This session will introduce students to the UFE and will explain in detail exactly what is tested on this exam. The session will also provide students with a detailed structured study plan that can be followed in order to pass the UFE.

If you would like to learn more about the UFE before registering for the Program, you are invited to attend this session free of charge

LOCATION

University of Toronto, Sidney Smith Hall 100 St. George St., Room 1088

COURSE DATES

January 26: 6.00 to 9.00 P.M.

Technical Sessions

In order to succeed on the UFE, it will be essential that CAs from India build up their technical skills particularly in the areas of financial accounting, assurance and taxation which are the most technical areas on the UFE. This is a necessary prerequisite to writing cases as students must have a strong technical base when addressing issues in cases.

The program therefore comprises a technical component which includes 9 classes on weekends over the winter and early spring in which an intensive technical review will be provided. Although the sessions will focus on key areas of financial accounting, assurance and taxation, students will be provided with a binder that covers all 6 competencies. The binder will allow students to review those competencies that are not covered in class (i.e. Governance, Strategy and Risk Management, Finance and Management Decision Making) through self study.

The schedule provides details of the topics covered in the technical sessions.

Case Writing Sessions

Over the course of 11 days, students will learn how to write cases effectively through a comprehensive case writing course which is offered in the summer. This course provides students with all of the tools they need to pass the UFE. The course consists of a combination of practice case writing sessions in which specific techniques and approaches vital to passing the UFE are taught.

Students will have an opportunity to write practice exams which will be taken up in class and marked professionally. For one of the exams, students will also attend a personal counselling session in which the marker will address students’ strengths and weaknesses and give them personal advice on how to improve their case writing.

The technique sessions will teach skills for effectively applying financial accounting, assurance and tax skills to UFE cases in order to achieve maximum depth. Students will also be taught how to perform quants in the most efficient manner so that the quants can be performed adequately, within the severe time constraints imposed by the UFE.
