REPEAT WRITER COMPREHENSIVE
COURSE - SUMMER
(11
Days of Instruction)
The
Comprehensive Course which
is offered in the summer,
is intended to provide students
with all of the tools they
need to pass the UFE. The
course consists of a combination
of practice case writing
sessions in which specific
techniques and approaches
vital to passing the UFE
are taught. These techniques
will be extremely useful
in moving up the "competency" levels.
Separate
Repeat Writer Stream -
Repeat
writers will be placed in
a separate stream from first
time writers. A number of
sessions will only be offered
to repeat writers (i.e.
What Went Wrong - How to
Fix it and the UFE Marker
Session). Also, repeat writers
will be in their own group
for some of the exam take-ups
in order to take advantage
of the fact that repeat
writers have experience
with case writing and the
take-up approach can reflect
this important fact. The
technique sessions will
be joint sessions with both
first time and repeat writers.
- Exclusive
repeat writer sessions:
- What
Went Wrong -
How to Fix it -

issues which ensures

COMP WRITING COURSE - SUMMER
(6
Days of Instruction)
For many repeat writers, the Comp is their biggest challenge in passing the UFE. To quote the UFE Board of Evaluators: "Because the comprehensive simulation provides a relatively high proportion (one-third) of the opportunities to demonstrate competence, poor performance on this simulation is very difficult to overcome".
Unfortunately,
many repeat writers have
simply not mastered the
comp and this results
in their downfall. To
address this, repeat writers
will be in their own stream
for half of the course. This
6 day summer course consists
of 3 components:
| 1. |
HOW TO WRITE A COMP SESSION
Learn how to formulate a plan and organize a response using a step by step approach. This session will be led by an experienced UFE Comp marker who has marked every UFE Comp since 2003. |
| 2. |
COMP WALKTHROUGH SESSION
This
session will allow students
to apply the skills they
acquire in the How to Write
a Comp session. The course
emphasis will be on the
planning process including
how to read the exam and
determine the primary and
secondary indicators and
how to plan one's time effectively. |
| 3. |
FOUR DAYS OF PRACTICE EXAM
WRITING
All comps are professionally marked and returned promptly along with solutions and evaluation guides. Each exam is taken up in the afternoon, showing students how to write a response.

FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING IFRS/ASPE REVIEW COURSE (2
Days of Instruction)
Repeat writers may want a review of the IFRS / PE GAAP material in the 2012 Competency Map. To address this, a Financial Accounting IFRS / PE GAAP course will be held, which will consist of a technical review and a walkthrough of a case incorporating many IFRS issues.
This 2 day course (held over 4 evenings) will summarize all of the technical areas in IFRS and Private Enterprise GAAP (ASPE) for which students are responsible. Simulated cases will be used to illustrate how these areas can be tested on the UFE. At the conclusion of the course, students will have a good grasp of both the technical material and how it differs from old GAAP and how to incorporate this material into cases.
