UFE 1. COMPREHENSIVE COURSE - SUMMER (11 Days of Instruction)The
Comprehensive Course which
is offered in the summer,
is intended to provide students
with all of the tools they
need to pass the UFE. The
course consists of a combination
of practice case writing
sessions in which specific
techniques and approaches
vital to passing the UFE
are taught. These techniques
will be extremely useful
in moving up the "competency" levels.
COURSE DATESJuly 27 - August 9 2011 (11 Days) COURSE FEES$1,675.00 (plus $217.75 HST for a total of $1,892.75) |

2. COMP WRITING COURSE - SUMMER (6
Days of Instruction) For
many students, the Comp
is their biggest challenge
in passing the UFE. To quote
the UFE Board of Evaluators: "Because
the comprehensive simulation
provides a relatively high
proportion (one-third) of
the opportunities to demonstrate
competence, poor
performance on this simulation
is very difficult to overcome".
This component of the UFE
differs considerably from
all of the exams students
have confronted in University.
The comp is much longer
than multis, there are a
large number of complex
intertwined issues, extensive
extraneous information is
provided, and candidates
must adopt a broader perspective
in formulating responses. A specific approach to handle
the comp is critical to
passing the UFE. 1. HOW TO WRITE A COMP SESSION This session will review how to formulate a plan and organize one's response. Students will be provided with a step by step approach that will guide them through the comp. This is particularly important, as the comp is 1/3 of the exam and this session will be led by an experienced UFE Comp marker who has marked every UFE Comp since 2003. 2. COMP WALKTHROUGH SESSION This session will allow students to apply the skills they acquire in the How to Write a Comp session. The course emphasis will be on the planning process including how to read the exam and determine the primary and secondary indicators and how to plan one's time effectively. 3. FOUR DAYS OF PRACTICE EXAM WRITING Students
will write 4 practice comps.
All comps are marked and
returned promptly along
with solutions and evaluation
guides showing all Primary
/ Secondary Indicators and
Competency levels. In addition,
each exam will be taken
up in the afternoon. In
addition to the above, students
will have a personal counselling
session with a professional
marker. (As there is some
overlap between the comprehensive
course and the comp writing
course, the comp writing
course is only 3 days for
students who take the comp
writing course in addition
to the comprehensive course.) COURSE DATESAugust 7 - August 12 2011 (6 Days) COURSE FEES$920.00 (plus $119.60 HST for a total of $1,039.60) For students taking this course along with the Comprehensive (Summer) course, the course fee is $450.00 (plus $58.50 HST for a total of $508.50). |

3. WINTER UFE PREPATORY COURSE (5 Days of Instruction)For many students, learning how to write UFE cases is a process which may require a number of months, meaning that if they begin their case writing in the summer, there just is not enough time to master case writing in time for the UFE. (Furthermore, students in Ontario must be competent at case writing prior to the summer in order to pass the Ontario Institute School of Accountancy.) Students working in large firms will generally get an early start on their practice case writing in a fall/winter in-house program; students in small and medium sized firms are, however, left to their own devices. As a result, such students often ignore case writing, pass the CKE and then have difficulty passing the School of Accountancy and the UFE. Students in Ontario have an excellent opportunity to get started on case writing early, as many students will write the January CKE exam and know that they are attending Summer School by the end of January (when the CKE results are released). Even students who need to write the CKE in May, should still be able to set aside some time to prepare for the UFE; therefore, the dates for this UFE course do not conflict with those of the PASS Winter CKE course. The course will consist of the following components:
After
taking this course, you
will have gained exposure
to case writing by the time
the summer begins; you will
then be able to derive maximum
benefit from the PASS courses
offered in the summer comprehensive
course, where you will learn
additional key techniques
for the UFE and further
refine your case writing
skills. COURSE DATESToronto: Wednesday March 2 (evening), 13, 27, Apr. 17, May 15 2011 Ottawa: February 27, March 13 2011 (See schedule for remaining dates)
