COURSES

UFE

1. COMPREHENSIVE COURSE - SUMMER

(11 Days of Instruction)

The Comprehensive Course which is offered in the summer, is intended to provide students with all of the tools they need to pass the UFE. The course consists of a combination of practice case writing sessions in which specific techniques and approaches vital to passing the UFE are taught. These techniques will be extremely useful in moving up the "competency" levels.

  • Learn specific techniques for writing UFE cases, such as:

    • Numerical Methods - How to perform quantitative analysis quickly and effectively in order to reach at least the 'competent' level
    • Depth in Financial Accounting - Essential technique for financial accounting issues which ensures students will move from 'nominal'    or 'reaching' competence to 'competent' once an issue is identified
    • Depth in Assurance - Focus on key planning points, relevant auditing/review procedures and a methodology for internal control and
         reporting issues
    • Comp Writing - Learn structured approach

  • UFE cases debriefed by experienced UFE markers - find out what they are looking for in a good answer

  • Personal counselling sessions with an experienced marker

  • Receive a PASS binder and comprehensive set of course materials (ie. cases and lecture notes), prepared for the 2012 UFE

COURSE DATES

July 25 - August 7, 2012 (11 Days)

COURSE FEES

$1,675.00 (plus $217.75 HST for a total of $1,892.75)

2. COMP WRITING COURSE - SUMMER

(6 Days of Instruction)

For many students, the Comp is their biggest challenge in passing the UFE. To quote the UFE Board of Evaluators: "Because the comprehensive simulation provides a relatively high proportion (one-third) of the opportunities to demonstrate competence, poor performance on this simulation is very difficult to overcome".

Unfortunately, many students do not prepare adequately for the comp and therefore, while they perform adequately on the multi competency questions, they fail the UFE due to their lack of success on the comp. In order to prevent this from occurring, PASS offers a course aimed specifically at addressing the comp. This course will be very helpful to both first time and repeat writers. This 6 day summer course consists of 3 components:

1.

HOW TO WRITE A COMP SESSION

Learn how to formulate a plan and organize a response using a step by step approach. This session will be led by an experienced UFE Comp marker who has marked every UFE Comp since 2003.

2.

COMP WALKTHROUGH SESSION

This session will allow students to apply the skills they acquire in the How to Write a Comp session. The course emphasis will be on the planning process including how to read the exam and determine the primary and secondary indicators and how to plan one's time effectively.

3.

FOUR DAYS OF PRACTICE EXAM WRITING

All comps are professionally marked and returned promptly along with solutions and evaluation guides. Each exam is taken up in the afternoon, showing students how to write a response.

COURSE DATES

August 1, 3, 7 - 10, 2012 (6 Days)

COURSE FEES

$920.00 (plus $119.60 HST for a total of $1,039.60)

For students taking this course along with the Comprehensive (Summer) course, the course fee is $450.00 (plus $58.50 HST for a total of $508.50).

3. WINTER UFE PREPARATORY COURSE

(5 Days of Instruction)

Writing cases early, in the winter months, will provide students with a significant advantage in both Summer School and at the UFE. This course will consist of the following components:

1. A half day course on preparing a study plan that incorporates preparation for the Ontario School of Accountancy and the UFE (as well as for the Winter CKE for those students who have not passed the January CKE sitting).
2. A full day course on UFE case writing techniques.
3. An opportunity to write two multi competency exams which will be marked professionally and returned with solutions and evaluation guides. In Toronto, both cases will be taken up in class. In Ottawa, the first case will be taken up in class. For the other case, personal counselling will be provided.
4. An opportunity to write one comp exam which will be marked professionally and returned with a solution and evaluation guide. This will help students for both the Summer School exam and the UFE. In Toronto, the case will be taken up in class. In Ottawa, the case will be marked and personal counselling will be provided.
